“It's too tough”, “I don't think I can ever do it”, “I know I will fail”, “There is no hope left for me”, “I think I should give up”, “I can't take it any more”.

Have you ever been in a situation where you could relate to what I said above?

If your answer is yes, then let me tell you that you are not alone, and it's completely normal to feel like this as we have all been in this situation. Exams are difficult, and there is no denying that the pressure can get to you, and actually take away the best of you which should totally not be the case. Feeling stressed for an Exam is Normal, and it might not be in your hands to control it, but allowing it to take away the best of you is in your hands and you can completely prevent it.

I know you are shocked here, and might not agree with me, but stay with me for a while, and I will tell you how I prevented burnout during the days leading up to my exams and did not let a single exam take away the best of me from School, to College, to even after Med School, even exams that were 8-9 hours long!

Tips to prevent Burnout

  • Making a Timetable to Minimize Burnout During Exams

Ever wondered how you could never stick to the timetables you set for yourself to prevent burnout, no matter how hard you tried? Allow me to tell you the most important thing to keep in mind while making a timetable, which is, to set realistic goals. Don't make a timetable in which you aim to finish 2 books in a day! Learn to set realistic goals that are achievable.

  • Importance of taking breaks during studies

Breaks during studies give your brain some time to refresh, and recuperate from all the learning, which in turn allows you to study faster, and in a more efficient manner, along with, most importantly, preventing the chances of burnout

  • Taking out time for yourself for self-care

Self-care is of utmost importance, so dedicate 15 to 20 mins each day to do activities that focus on your physical, and mental health such as Yoga, Meditation, or any activity that freshens you up, such as even doing Sports! It helps you calm down, and acts as a boost for your body as well.

  • Surround yourself with people who motivate You

If you are taking competitive exams do not detach yourself from social interactions, and do not totally isolate yourself from the outside world i.e. your friends, family, and your well-wishers. Cracking Competitive Exams can be a gruesome journey, which you might not always succeed, so it's vital to surround yourself with people who can boost your morale, pick you up, and help you in believing in yourself.
